Infrared and Visible Image Registration Based on Enhanced Whale Optimization Algorithm

The performance of the enhanced whale optimization algorithm (eWOA), a nature inspired meta-heuristic algorithm, for infrared (IR) and visible image registration is presented in this work. The eWOA allows superior search space exploration and exploitation with a low risk of trapping in local optima and it is developed on the hunting behavior of humpback whales. Various sets of infrared and visible images are taken into consideration for this study. The registration outcomes are compared with those of other modern image registration techniques. The outcomes demonstrate how competitive eWOA is as an infrared-visible image registration technique. The algorithm may be a good option for registration of images from different modalities due to the benefits of better search space exploration and local optima obviation.
