Towards the Exploration of dry Electrodes Performance in Bioimpedance Measurements based on The AD5933 Chip

Bioimpedance measurement plays a significant role in various diagnostic and therapeutic applications related to skin health and conditions, such as dermatological diagnostics, transdermal drug delivery, and wound healing. Additionally, it is important to obtain accurate bioelectrical signals, ensure contact stability, and maintain patient safety during electrical stimulation. For that, this study investigates the behavior of the electrode-skin impedance interaction for various types of electrodes gel and dry on four healthy subjects within the frequency range of 5 kHz to 50 kHz. The present study is explored using a low-cost bioimpedance measurement system design based on the AD5933 chip with a tetra-polar electrode configuration. The validation process consists on the comparison of the obtained bioimpedance measurements for the four subjects. Then, we've conducted further analysis by the measure of the mean and the standard deviation for each electrode's type. This comparative analysis allowed for a comprehensive assessment of the performance and consistency of the electrodes across the subjects. It also contributes to the understanding of electrode performance and the potential use of dry electrodes in bioimpedance measurements.
