Intelligent Transport Systems Using High Altitude Platform Stations

The rapid development of technology in recent years has brought about significant advances in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). In order to enhance the sustainability, efficiency, and safety of transportation applications, this article highlights the importance of using High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) as a crucial communication solution. This detailed exploration aims to illustrate the enhanced capabilities of connected HAPS and demonstrate how they exceed those of conventional satellite systems. In addition, the article also delves into the actual performance of HAPS through a comprehensive analysis of factors such as surface cover, atmospheric attenuation and data rate. To illustrate the practical implementation of HAPS in ITS as a solution, a case study of the highway of the Hauts Plateaux in Algeria is provided.
