Low Cost ECT Based System for Thickness Measurement of Metallic Plates

This contribution focuses on the nondestructive testing of the thickness of metallic plates, using eddy current testing. Specifically, we present a low cost device for measuring the thickness of metal plates without contact, while maintaining a high accuracy appropriate for industrial applications. The proposed device consists mainly of two eddy current sensors, a realized electronic circuit and a developed Labview interface. In order to test the lift-off effect, three aluminum samples with thicknesses of 6, 12.5 and 19.5 mm were prepared on three different positions between the two sensors. the experimental measurements for the thickness of plates have been carried out for the verification of the proposed method.
