A Survey of Compute First Networking

With the rapid advancements in cloud computing, edge computing, and intelligent devices, there has been a proliferation of computing resources with a trend toward ubiquitous deployment. However, traditional network architectures have struggled to effectively harness these ubiquitous computing resources. In response to this challenge and the growing need for optimizing and efficiently utilizing both network and computing resources, a novel architectural paradigm known as Compute First Networking (CFN) has emerged. CFN establishes a framework where ubiquitous and heterogeneous computing resources are interconnected through networking, enabling unified orchestration and flexible resource allocation. This research paper commences by providing an in-depth examination of the current state of CFN research, delineates various definitions associated with CFN, elucidates the fundamental architecture and pivotal technologies underpinning CFN, and ultimately delves into prospective avenues for future CFN research endeavors.
