Renewable Photovoltaic/Wind system with battery storage for water pumping in a small-scale area

The paper provides simulation and experimental study of a hybrid renewable system (photovoltaic/wind turbine) with battery storage. A design method is used to calculate the photovoltaic and the wind generators number. An application for the water pumping was done for the irradiance, temperature and wind speed profile of a day measured in the Bejaia area. The overall hybrid pumping system with batteries was then investigated by an experimental study, where tests were made under various total dynamic heads (TDH) to show the different performances regarding the flow rate and the pump efficiency variations of the proposed system. A comparison between the different results is presented, concluding that the studied system would be feasible for water pumping purposes on a small scale in the region of Bejaia (Algeria).
