3D Voxel Pattern Modeling for Monte Carlo Simulation of Radiation Transport and its Application to Radiation Source Finding

In radiation measurements, in addition to direct radiations from a radiation source both radiations result from scattering and shielding of primary radiations by objects around radiation source(s) are reached to a radiation detector/camera. By taking into account the effects of scattering and shielding, further accurate measurements or imaging can be achieved. For the Monte Carlo simulation of radiation transport to evaluate scattered and attenuated radiations, a 3D voxel pattern modeling based on 3D point cloud data was adopted. The geometry built by this modeling method was used to the evaluation of 662 keV gamma-ray attenuations by surrounding objects in finding a

CS point source, and the results showed that the estimated source location and activity agreed well within the uncertainties by considering the attenuations.
