One Day-Ahead Optimal Scheduling in a 5 Bus Distribution Test System

Optimal planning is essential to ensure that power systems operate in a sustainable and reliable manner. In the power systems with conventional sources the generation is usually known and changes are slow because the impedances of large power system act as damping filters. However, it is not the same in distributed networks especially the ones using wind and solar energy as sources. Since unexpected changes occur in wind and solar PV systems, it is more difficult to keep generation and consumption balance in optimum conditions continuously. In this study, one day-ahead optimal scheduling study is conducted in a 5-bus test system. Considering the generation units and network constraints, the objective function is defined with the aim of minimizing the total operating costs and active power losses. Three cases are constructed and tested with these objective functions. The Symbiotic organism search (SOS) algorithm is used to investigate optimal scheduling programs.
