Foot computational diagnosis though Hernandez Corvo, Clarke and Staheli Chippaux Index

Practical and easy computational analysis for the diagnosis of the static type of footprint, plantar arch or identification of any anomaly in the footprint of an infant is presented in the report. Foot valuation not usually performed in children of Mexican families, due to the economic extent or little information on the subject. The proposed interface does not replace the clinical or foot examination by biomedical experts, but offers a computational alternative to make a diagnosis of the child’s footprint classification. The experimental analysis uses a photo-podoscope and a digital camera where the image of the plantar footprint is processed. The RGB image is transformed to grayscale, a low-pass filter is applied to smooth the image and noise is eliminated, finally the edge of the footprint is detected with the pseudocolor algorithm. The user interface applies morphological parameters like Hernandez Corvo index (HCI), Clarke’s angle (CAI) and Staheli Chippaux index (SCI).The results are reduced to a sample of 4 children of 4-6 years old where finally it is possible to identify their type of footprint by the different indexes, in a practical and economic way. This work offers a computational technique for plantar study that can be used in a practical and simple way in school children in Mexico.
