The Analysis of Cross-Polarization Characteristic Based on High-Frequency Electromagnetic Theory

The existing methods assume that the polarization scattering matrix (PSM) of corner reflector (CR) is [1 0; 0 1], but the contributions of single reflection (SR), double reflection (DR), and single diffraction (SD) at different angles are ignored. Therefore, He et al. have proposed a method based on high-frequency electromagnetics to analyze the PSM of CR. Although cross-polarization is not equal using experiments found in He et al., it cannot be explained. Therefore, this communication has derived the closed-form solutions of SR and DR, and then strictly proves that cross-polarization of DR is not equal from the formula derivation and physical mechanism, thus extending the polarization characteristics of 2-D plane to 3-D space.
