An Overview of Wide-Voltage Range Isolated DC-DC Converters

This paper presents an overview of galvanically isolated dc-dc converters for applications requiring a wide voltage gain range. Such converters are necessary for photovoltaic arrays, fuel cells, and energy storage systems, which require a wide voltage range dc-dc converter. The existing isolated dc-dc converters are classified into two main groups based on the approach used to extend the voltage gain range. The first group employs topology morphing control (TMC) to change the converter topology, which includes changes at the input side, output side, and the equivalent transformer turns ratio. The second group is based on hybrid converters that combine features of different topologies. The subcategories of these topologies are provided to distinguish their features. The overview aims to provide essential information for engineers and researchers interested in this topic.
