Power System Modelling in the Baltic Countries: Data Accessibility and Consistency Aspects

In this paper we present a review of the data necessary for Baltic power system and electricity market modelling, analyse the most important and useful data sources, their accessibility, quality and utility. We provide observations regarding the studied data sources as well as highlight and address some of the most pressing issues that arise in this domain, including data consistency between various sources. Based on a data comparison example concerning power generation timeseries in Latvia, we show how researchers need to be cautious when selecting the databases and information sources to be used in their modelling efforts. In the end, lessons learned are summarized and recommendations made to both data providers and users.
