Research on Propeller Icing Characteristics

This study addresses the critical safety issue of ice accretion on propellers in aircraft, helicopters, and aerial vehicles operating in extreme weather conditions. Propeller icing alters aerodynamic characteristics, impacting overall flight performance. Existing de-icing solutions, including piezoelectric de-icing and Vibration de-icing, remain limited due to a lack of systematic research. The paper employs numerical simulations to comprehensively investigate propeller icing characteristics, focusing on droplet impact, ice accretion, and aerodynamic effects. Results highlight primary collection areas, the influence of velocity and rotational speed on collection rates, and aerodynamic impact. The study contributes innovative insights, aiming to enhance understanding and propose effective solutions for safe aircraft operation in adverse weather conditions.
