Synchronverter as Control Strategy of Grid-Forming Inverter

The power grid is currently experiencing a significant transition from centralized to distributed generation along with high penetration of inverter-based electrical systems. Inverters, providing auxiliary services, can be referred to smart inverters like grid-forming inverters and specifically the synchronverter. In the islanding mode, the synchronverter forms the grid by determining the voltage profile and supplying active and reactive power for frequency and voltage control. As such, the synchronverter can be described as a controlled inverter that operates like Synchronous Generator (SG). In this paper, the synchronverter general and technical overview are presented with the simulation results to validate the model’s performance.
