Prototype of Automated Blood Specimens System

Clinical laboratories have rapidly evolved since the 1990s, mainly driven by technological advances that focus on automation. This advanced automation nowadays helped to reduce the human errors existence. In this research, a prototype of an automated blood specimen’s system was designed and assembled, where two robotic arms carrying the blood samples from the conveyor belts to the assigned storage locations and another one to implement the dispense process. A QR reader was added to distinguish each specimen and a microcontroller is used to automate the process. Moreover, an interface system was programmed using LABVIEW software, where the coding window is different than the operator. This automated process is expected to increase the lab efficiency as well as the speed of analysis. The system was tested, and the statistical results were included that showed an average less than 4.2% error out of sixty trails.
