Optimization of Microfluidic-Integrated Sensor for COVID-19 Application

COVID-19 is a pandemic disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This virus is mainly spread by droplets, respiratory secretions, and direct contact. Caused by the huge spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, research is focused on the study of biosensors as they present a rapid solution for reducing incidents and fatality rates. In this paper, the fluid flow inside the microchannel has been analyzed in order to optimize the biosensor time detection. A numerical simulation based on two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations has been used. The study has been carried out for different inlet positions and several confinement velocities. In addition, the effect of inlet angles on time detection has been analyzed. Results revealed that biosensor time detection is enhanced with a closer secondary inlet position and higher velocity confinement. Further, the inlet angle has a slight effect on time detection.
