Simulation and optimization of hybrid system (photovoltaic panel and diesel generator with energy storage) for Base Transceiver (BTS) station site located in southern Algeria

Currently, diesel generators are the only source of electricity used by Algerian telecom sites isolated from the electrical grid. This production method has a number of drawbacks, including pollution, fuel costs, and greenhouse gas emissions. Isolated sites are justified in being cut off from the main network by their locations as well as their unique geographic and climatic features. Because diesel generators are readily available and dependable, they have been used the most despite these drawbacks. Therefore, the environment and the cost of producing energy would benefit from the combination of renewable energy sources and the diesel generator. Nevertheless, because the various energy sources run concurrently, this solution calls for extremely complex control algorithms. Three systems are being studied in this work: a photovoltaic generator, a storage system, and a diesel generator. High energy management performance has been attained by using a power management strategy among the various generators. To make up for the costs associated with installing the PV generator, a revised configuration for the isolated site power system was suggested.
