Agile pedagogy: using scrum and project based learning for enhanced educational experiences

Traditional online learning typically involves a lecture-based approach where the instructor provides content to students via videos or online modules. This approach can be a difficult experience for some students due to the absence of the traditional classroom structure, physical distance from the teacher and classmates. Additionally, online learning can lack interactivity and collaboration, which can cause some students to lose motivation. On the other hand, project-based learning (PBL) is an educational approach that involves students working on a project or problem over a long period of time. can be an effective approach to online learning, as it offers students the opportunity to engage in active and collaborative learning, applying their knowledge and skills to real-world problems. Teams can work on the project using online tools such as video conferencing and online project management tools. These tools can allow students to work together in real time, regardless of location, to complete the project. In the professional world we rely on different methods to manage projects and group work, among these methods is SCRUM which is a very popular project management methodology in the software industry with very good results in terms of effectiveness of teamwork. Adopting the PBL method with SCRUM can help improve the online learning experience by providing students with an interactive and hands-on experience that promotes engagement, collaboration, communication, time management, and organization. The main objective of this research is to investigate the extent to which the scrum methodology can be effectively utilized in a project-based learning (PBL) environment. The study aims to explore the practicality and suitability of the scrum approach as a project management framework within the context of PBL, and to assess its impact on project outcomes and overall student performance. By examining the various aspects of the scrum methodology, including its principles, practices, and tools, in relation to PBL, the research aims to provide insights and recommendations that can help improve project management practices in educational settings.
