Implementation of Real-Time Wind Turbine Emulator using Induction motor controlled by a Linear Control Approach

This paper presents the experiment implementation of real-time wind turbine emulator based on an induction motor controlled by a linear control system based on field-oriented control for standalone wind energy conversion system (WECS) in the laboratory. By using the emulation system, we aim to reproduce the dynamic behavior of the wind turbine torque on the electrical generator shaft, and it provides a laboratory prototype for testing wind energy conversion system (WECS) strategies in a controlled environment, without dependence on natural resources. The control of the induction motor has presented as well as the control of the pitch angle using fuzzy logic. The DSpace DS1104 real-time controller board and MATLAB/Simulink environment are used to implement the proposed control system. The results and the system performances under a highly fluctuating wind profile are discussed.
