DODA: A Decentralized Online Dating Application

Recently, there has been significant interest in decentralized mobile applications like Bluesky and Diaspora, which offer a potential solution to overcome the single point of failure associated with traditional client-server architecture. This paper presents a method for decentralizing the server functionality of dating apps. The approach involves two key aspects: 1) Decentralization of the matching function, achieved through an extended version of the Gale-Shapley algorithm, a well-known polynomialtime algorithm for stable matching, and 2) Decentralization of the chat function, which utilizes a mechanism to temporarily, securely store chat messages on IPNS (InterPlanetary Name System). These methods enable matchmaking without revealing one’s preferences to others and ensure secure message exchange with offline users, all without the need for a central server.
