Shuttling Through Films: A Recoloring Method Based on Chinese Film Aesthetics

Recoloring, the process of adjusting the color palette of an image, is widely used in fields like image editing. In this paper, we propose a novel two-stage improved model consisting of a Detail Refine Module (DRM) and a Prior-based Recolor Module (PRM). DRM standardizes the brightness features between style images and target ones, while PRM utilizes generative priors for recoloring, utilizing strategies such as exposure correction, color histogram, and GAN generative priors to transfer and fill in color styles between different movie shots. We have collected and constructed a dataset of high-resolution images called “ChineseMovie”, focusing on Chinese movies' unique characteristics. Experimental results demonstrate the advantages of our approach, especially in replicating the unique color style of Chinese movies. Despite potentially dim original frames, our method effectively handles brightness issues, resulting in seamless transitions between movie shots. We believe that our work contributes to the promotion and protection of Chinese culture.
