Evaluating Power Losses in EV Traction Inverters: A Stochastic Modeling Tool for Performance Assessment

This paper proposes a stochastic modeling tool designed to evaluate the performance of traction inverters in electric vehicles (EVs). The powertrain components of the EV are modeling as follows: the battery is an equivalent electric circuit, the traction inverter is characterized by its efficiency curve, while the electric motor is represented by the stochastic power demand. The tool can be simulated to verify different aspects of the EV operation, as battery autonomy and total energy demand. Based on the obtained results, an EV weight average efficiency is also defined to be used as figure of merit for simple, fast performance evaluation of traction inverters.
