Power Factor Correction of a Hydroelectric Plant Ancillary-Service-Grid Supplied by a PV Float Generation

This work presents a proposal for power factor correction of the ancillary services grid from the hydroelectric power plant of Sobradinho- Ba, which is supplied by a photo-voltaic generation also placed at the same power plant dam. The photovoltaic panels compose a floating PV farm located over the reservoir's lake. In this study, a computational model for the PV power plant, energy processing, and a suitable control system is proposed and tested in Simulink/Matlab®. From the results obtained, it is concluded that the control proposal allows the option of using part of the photovoltaic energy to improve the power factor of the power plant electric grid.
