Probabilistic EV Hosting Capacity of an Australian Distribution Network in the Presence of Uncertainties

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy sources in the power system has led to the need for evaluating the EV hosting capacity of distribution networks. The EV hosting capacity is associated with network constraints such as voltage violation risk (VVR), line loading, and transformers' capacity. In this paper, by considering an Australian distribution network context, a framework has been proposed to identify the EV hosting capacity in probabilistic manner to assess the effects of uncertainties linked with EV charging demand. A theoretical framework has been presented by adapting respective probability distributions to model EV charging demand, load demand, and residential solar PV generations. According to the results, the EV hosting capacity will be limited to 40% due to the VVR limit and 60% due to the line loading limit. However, EV hosting capacity could reach up to 100% without violating the transformer capacity limit. The simulation results indicate that an increase in system loading leads to a decrease in the EV hosting capacity. On the other hand, an increase in solar PV penetration results in an increase in the EV hosting capacity.
