FS-MPC Approach for Zero-Sequence Compensation in SEIG-Based Off-Grid Systems

This paper proposes a finite set model predictive control (FS-MPC) strategy to deal with voltage regulation in off-grid four-wire microgeneration systems based on the self-excited induction generator (SEIG). The FS-MPC approach allows for simpler and more effective unbalance controller design. The controller finds the optimal switching vector through a cost function that tracks alternating current references and the voltage unbalance with good performance even in a system without frequency regulation. The four-leg inverter supplies the required reactive power and compensates for the harmonic content, ensuring balanced three-phase voltages on the PCC, even under unbalanced loads. Experimental results validate the proposed control approach and evaluate the system performance regarding the power quality standards.
