Assessment of Interface Algorithms for Real-Time Co-Simulation

One noteworthy solution in the context of more accurate representation of power systems is the use of distributed simulation, such as co-simulation using realtime simulators. Therefore, the electrical connection between the two distributed systems play an important role within this solution, specially in the stability of the simulation. This paper presents an assessment of the interface algorithms utilized in the literature, presenting open-loops transfer functions of this interface algorithms to study the stability of the distributed simulation setup. This methodology was tested with the co-simulation of the well-established system IEEE 9-bus in a real time environment using two OPAL-RT OP5707, and simulation results confirm the proposed analysis.
