Day-ahead Low-carbon Dispatch Strategy for Power Systems Considering Pumped-storage Hydroelectric Participation in Active Power Regulations

Pumped-storage hydroelectric power stations can coordinate with generation units in power systems to participate in inertia frequency response, primary frequency response, and peak regulation under the centralized dispatch of grid operators, to ensure secure, economic, and low-carbon operations of power grids. In this paper, an optimal day-ahead low-carbon dispatch framework is established to minimize the daily operational total cost from the global perspective of power system operations, considering carbon capture power plants and potential operation risks of power girds. To achieve the optimal trade-off between security and economy of active power operations, the CVaR approach is employed to describe the relationships of reserved space and potential loss under entire operation circumstances. To realize the complementary operational advantages of regulation units, coordination strategies of a PSH and GUs are proposed. To achieve a lower level of daily carbon emissions of power systems, a time-of-use carbon-price carbon emission trading model is built. Situation simulations and data analysis have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed dispatch framework, and the decisions can help realize secure, economic, and low-carbon power system operations with a high-proportion wind power.
