Investigation of the Switching Losses of OSV-MPC-Based Power Converters Through the Quantification of the Switching Frequency Profile

This work analyzes the switching losses in an OSV-MPC-based power converter, proposing a method to estimate these losses according to the switching frequency profile generated by this class of control strategies. The scope of the analysis includes a two-level, three-phase, grid-connected power converter, and the objective is to evaluate the efficiency of the power converter, investigating the predictive controller effect in the generated switching pulses, therefore, in the variable switching frequency profile and in the converter's efficiency. The findings provide a practical approach for assessing MPC strategies seeking efficiency improvement. The contribution of this work comprises a method for proper evaluation of the switching losses in OSV-MPC-based converters.
