Comparing Temperature Derating Test in the Laboratory with Commercial Photovoltaic Inverter Datasheet

Temperature is a crucial factor influencing photo-voltaic (PV) energy generation, impacting both the Standard Test Conditions (STC) of PV modules and the behavior of inverters. The operational efficiency and lifespan of inverters are significantly affected by temperature variations. Therefore, accurately analyzing and predicting the thermal behavior of grid-tie solar inverters is essential for simulating PV systems and forecasting energy losses and generation potential. This study focuses on the performance of PV inverters operating under high-temperature conditions. We implemented a cost-effective experimental methodology to conduct derating tests on two 8kW single-phase PV inverters. By comparing and analyzing the acquired data, this research reveals disparities between the derating curves provided by manufacturers and those derived from experimental results. Furthermore, this study underscores the critical role of derating tests in mitigating generation losses and enhancing the efficiency of PV systems.
