Brushless Cascaded Double-Fed Induction Machine for Wind Power Plants

This paper presents the modeling of a Brushless Cascaded Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (BCDFIM). The development proposed aims to reach the technological readiness level 3 (TRL3) for the application in wind power plants. The system must be simpler as the tradicional wind power solutions. Some operation modes are presented too. For that, a BCDFIM laboratory prototype with a powerful data acquisition system was constructed and will be described in this paper. Experimental results will be presented, and the future steps described. Rotor speed, torque, electrical power, voltage, and stator currents are measured with the test bench developed in island and grid-connected mode operation.
