Study of Hosting Capacity and the Impacts of Overvoltage in a Real Grid

This paper evaluates the overvoltages caused by the integration of distributed generation into the power grid. Voltage requirements are defined by government agencies. There are factors that directly influence the grid capacity to accommodate the connected distributed generation systems, such as the connection point, the type of connection (single-phase, two-phase or three-phase), the system power, the employed technology, the grid configuration, and the systems efficiency. Thus, this study aims to understand overvoltage on the grid of the UFMG university campus in order to propose the best alternative that allows for the maximum potential of distributed generation injection without violating voltage standards. The results enabled the comprehension of the effects due to the injected power of the systems in the grid and also the location of the systems. It is worth noting that the analyzed system is characterized as three-phase and balanced in relation to the connected loads, lines, and distributed generation systems.
