Model Reference Adaptive Controller for a Distribution SSSC

The Distribution Static Synchronous Series Compensator (D-SSSC) offers a cost-effective approach to enhance distribution grid efficiency and resilience by rebalancing power between feeders and turning radial grids into meshed ones. However, distribution systems have a dynamic profile with many uncertainties caused by the penetration of distributed generation (DG), load variations, and contingencies. This paper presents a control approach for the D-SSSC applied to power flow control between distribution feeders. The proposed control is based on Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC), which has adaptive characteristics that make the equipment less exposed to uncertainties related to these systems. Simulation results presented in this paper show that these controllers have a good response to a wide range of variations in distribution feeders, such as line parameter and load variations.
