Power Quality Challenges by Integrating Modern Customers into the Low-Voltage Grid

The integration of electric vehicles and LED lighting devices into the low-voltage grid offers new opportunities for its restructuring, but also introduces new challenges for power quality and system reliability. The use of power electronic devices in these modern equipment causes supraharmonics in the frequency range of 2-150kHz in the power system. This can have a significant impact on power quality. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the characteristics of these devices based on the measurement data in terms of inrush current and supraharmonics. As a result of this evaluation, the related technical challenges in the design of passive filters are identified. As a result, two crucial challenges need to be addressed: reducing resonance effects and limiting inrush currents. Several solutions to these challenges are discussed in this paper. As a result of the analysis presented in this paper, it has been concluded that a careful consideration of these challenges requires an optimization strategy that balances technical feasibility with economic viability.
