“Safer”: Design and Development of a Supportive Assistant for Emotion Regulation

During the past decade, technology has played a significant role in enhancing mental health care, leading to the development of innovative paradigms and techniques. The extensive use of mobile apps and smartphones has provided a convenient and popular means for individuals seeking self-help in the field of psychology. In this paper, we focused on the description of the mHealth app “Safer - Supportive Assistant For Emotion Regulation”, a mobile app, based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to promote emotion regulation skills in young adults belonging to a clinical and comparison sample. We start by describing the theorical framework on which Safer is based and eventually it follows an extensive report on the different features of the app. In the conclusions, we trace some future directions about the implementation and deployment of Safer in clinical and comparison participants to empower emotion regulation skills.
