Brain-Computer Interface to Drive Industrial Robots: An Experimental Study in Hybrid Human-Robot Manufacturing

The evolution of manufacturing industry from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 places greater emphasis on the collaboration between humans and machines. The use of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) is proposed as a potential communication link between humans and robots in manufacturing systems to improve manufacturing quality and efficiency. However, the recognition of brain signals in real-time is challenging due to the weak nature of the signals and their variability between individuals. The integration of BCI technology into Industry 4.0 could bring about significant benefits, such as enhanced efficiency and productivity, by allowing humans to communicate with machines directly. This would enable seamless collaboration between humans and machines, leading to a hybrid system that leverages the strengths of both. Therefore, BCI technology has the potential to revolutionize the manufacturing industry and could be a valuable addition to Industry 4.0.
