Waveform Design for Integrated Sensing and Communication Using Random Stepped-carrier OFDM Signals

In this paper, a random stepped-carrier orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (RSC-OFDM) waveform is designed for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), where the information is conveyed not only by M-ary signal constellations, but also by the steps index. In addition, a radar processing scheme is proposed to realize the high resolution range-velocity image, where the phase error induced by steps is compensated through the velocity estimation. The scheme is verified with simulations at 60 GHz. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional method by improving the range resolution, while keeping the nearly constant computational effort.
