Hybrid PWM control Scheme for Open-End Winding Five-Phase Induction Motor Drive to Suppress Lower Order Harmonics

High power industrial applications utilize inherently low switching inverters. As a result of this operation, the induction motor drive experiences derating due to the injection of lower order harmonics. A six step three phase inverter driven induction motors have not only the harmonic losses but also the bearing leakge currents due to common mode voltage. This paper proposes the hybrid PWM (slow switching) inverter driven open ended five phase induction motor with harmonic suppression. The degree of freedom is explored to counter the harmonics injected by the slow switched inverter by adding another high frequency switched inverter to compensate the harmonics.The results provided over a simulation and experiment confirms the mentioned advantages.
