An Arduino based Advanced Safety Method for Automatic Railway Gate Control

In underdeveloped countries and developing countries train accidents tend to occur more frequently compared to developed nations. Several factors contribute to this heightened risk. First, underdeveloped countries often face challenges in maintaining and modernizing their railway infrastructure. Although the number of deaths from train accidents has significantly decreased in recent years, India has a bad reputation when it comes to rail safety. The National Crime Records Bureau, which gathers and examines crime statistics in India, reports that about 18,000 railway accidents claimed the lives of over 16,000 persons in 2021. The proposed Automatic Railway Gate Control System is a cutting-edge solution designed to significantly enhance safety and efficiency at railway crossings. This system combines advanced technologies to ensure safe railway operations and reduce accidents. Two ultrasonic sensors are used to detect the arrival and departure of trains. Stepper motors are required to open and close the gate, and Arduino is used to control these motors The thermal sensors continuously monitor for the presence of living objects near the tracks. If any object is detected in the danger zone, the system can trigger additional warnings or take corrective actions as necessary. The driver will also be informed well in advance of the gate’s status.
