An array of Slotted Concentric-ring shaped Printed Radiators for DSRC Applications

This article proposed an array consisting of a couple of slotted printed radiators for Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) operating within the frequency range of 5.85−5.925 GHz, as specified by the IEEE 802.11p standard. The sole antenna is a concentric-ring-based geometry in which two rings are directly excited, whereas the center circle is excited parasitically. Later, eight thin rectangular-shaped structure is etched from the initial two circles to enhance the antenna gain. Further, a tiny circle is subtracted from the center of the parasitic circle to resonate the structure at the desired frequency. Wilkinson power divider is employed in designing the arrays feed network to achieve a high isolation level. A single-layer PCB laminated FR-4 (ϵr=4.4) is used to develop the antennas in CST Microwave studio. The antenna and the array are offered 7.50 and 10.20 dBi gain along with more than 100% bandwidth coverage. Both the antenna gives minimal xpol. level along the direction of the main beam. Both antennas have very high radiation and acceptable aperture efficiencies, respectively. The antenna has significantly less EMI/EMC effect as their correction factor values are minimal. Both are suitable candidates for DSRC, especially vehicular communication.
