Average Peak Age of Information Minimization in UAV-assisted Integrated Sensing and Communication System

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a promising technique to improve network communication and sensing capability by enhancing network coverage. In this paper, we consider a UAV-assisted ISAC system, where the UAV senses the target first and then transmitting the information sensing packet to base station (BS) for making decisions. Particularly, we adopt the peak age of information (PAoI) as a crucial performance metric to measure the freshness of the information. Our goal is to minimize the average PAoI by optimizing the horizontal position, sensing time, communication time, and power allocation of the UAV. For the single-target scenario, a semi-closed-form expression is obtained for the optimal horizontal location of the UAV, which is solved by Newton’s iterative method. For the multi-target scenario, we propose a successive convex approximation (SCA) method based algorithm to solve the non-convex problem. Finally, simulation results reveal the impact of various parameters and validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
