DC-Link Voltage Control of Grid Connected PV-Battery-Diesel based Hybrid Supply System by Neuro-Fuzzy Controllers

Many apartments, hospitals, institutes and industries are having diesel generators for backup power supply during no supply from the utility grid. In such locations, sufficient places are available to install renewable energy sources for generating electricity. Photovoltaic (PV) based power generations are attracting many scholars due to various advantageous and easy operation. Hence, the integration of PV-Diesel generators can provide often solution to reduce electricity bill as well as pollution by reduction in consumption of diesel. The excess power generated from PV system will be stored in battery and also can feed to grid when battery gets full charged. In order to maintain reliability as well as supply quality power to the load, an energy storage device such are batteries needs to be integrated to the system where using renewable energy sources. Hence, PV-diesel-battery system is considered in this paper and proposed an effective energy management system to reduce diesel consumption. A novel control method is implemented to maintain constant voltage at dc-link which can offer an effective energy management system under various operating conditions. A DC-DC bidirectional converter is placed between dc-link and battery to regulate charging and discharging process of battery. Neuro-Fuzzy based controllers are developed for bidirectional converter to enhance precious response. Extensive results are provided and evaluated through hardware- in the -loop by OPAL-RT devices to enhance the implemented control method in various possible cases.
