Software Defined Radio Development for NOAA Satellite Signal Reception HRPT/AHRPT Mode

This paper introduces the use of Nuand Blade RF's Software Defined Radio product for the reception of low-resolution HRPT satellite imagery on several satellites such as NOAA 18, NOAA 19. Previous technologies built by several integrators used a lot of hardware components. Hardware components take up a lot of space, are fixed, and complex in processing. Starting with the use of SDR variants of the SDR-RTL type, then continued with the use of Nuand Blade RFXa9, seeking to minimise space and dimensions. Both SDR-RTL works at frequencies of 500 kHz up to 1766 MHz and SDR Nuand Blade works at frequencies of 47 MHz up to 6 GHz, can be used to receive weather satellite signals that have HRPT and AHRPT mode transmission. Raw data after being received through the Feeder is then lowered using a downconverter, then demodulated to produce in WAV data format. For NOAA/Meteor the WAV format is further converted to. BIN. For Metop the WAV format is converted to CSDU. Using a software LeanHRPT the raw data can be visualised into zero level data. The results of data acquisition using the old technology and the new one using SDR are compared. The advantages and disadvantages are discussed. SDR has proven for Meteorological satellite receiving that instead of conventional demodulator.
