A Novel Switched Capacitor Based Single Stage Inverter for Solar Power Extraction

Power electronic interface used in applications such as solar power extraction requires conversion of a low voltage DC to a boosted AC voltage. A novel Switched Capacitor based Single Stage Inverter (SCSSI) is proposed in this paper. The proposed inverter utilizes switched capacitor technique and thus improves the gain. It employs only one inductor for buck-boost operation that is common in both halves of output AC voltage, confirming symmetry of AC waveform. The circuit utilizes a single DC source as power input in both the positive and negative halves, effectively eliminating any inconsistencies caused by variations in the power source. Moreover, the SCSSI uses reduced number of components, leading to advantages such as decreased weight, reduced cost, and a more compact design. Detailed analysis and component design of the proposed SCSSI are comprehensively discussed, and its operation is validated from results obtained using MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation as well as results from hardware prototype
