Modeling and Simulation for Charging EVs with PFC Converter

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular as a sustainable and environmentally friendly mode of transportation. However, to power these vehicles, efficient and reliable charging infrastructure is essential. One critical component of EV charging systems is the Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter, which plays a crucial role in improving the efficiency and power quality of the charging process. This work aims to model and simulate a converter system for charging electric vehicles using a PFC converter. The PFC converter is responsible for rectifying and conditioning the incoming AC power from the grid, ensuring high power factor and low total harmonic distortion. Additionally, it interfaces with a DC-DC converter, which transforms the grid voltage into the appropriate level for efficient battery charging in the EV. The modeling and simulation process is fundamental for the development and optimization of such systems. By employing simulation tools and detailed models, engineers and researchers can thoroughly analyze the performance, efficiency, and stability of the EV charging system before moving to hardware prototyping and implementation. This approach not only saves time and resources but also allows for the exploration of various design options and the fine-tuning of control strategies. This project aims to contribute to the efficient and sustainable integration of EVs into the transportation ecosystem by optimizing the performance of charging infrastructure through the use of Power Factor Correction converters.
