Wearable IoT Gas Monitoring for Sewers Safety

Manual scavenging, the hazardous practice of manually cleaning and handling human waste, continues to claim. Lives and deprive individuals of their dignity. The person gets inside the drainage to clean. By getting deep inside during cleaning. Due to insufficient oxygen, hazardous gases such as hydrogen sulfide, methane, carbon monoxide, and ammonia will be released, which are harmful to human beings and may lead to death due to suffocation. To propose an innovative approach to tackling this issue by utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, specifically Arduino and Blynk (mobile application), to develop a control system aimed at preventing death and improving the safety conditions for manual scavengers. The gas sensor is used to detect hazardous gasses carried by a person. If the sensor detects any hazardous gasses, an alert message is sent to the Blynk app. In this paper, we discussed about the method to detect hazardous gases in manholes and generate notifications in order to save lives.
