Optimal Allocation of Distributed Generation Considering Voltage Dependency of Loads

The variation of load power as a result of voltage fluctuation of network buses can be remedied by optimally allocating distributed generation (DG) which alters the level of bus voltages. This issue has been tackled by few studies, taking into account voltage-dependent loads in their modeling of DG allocation problems, but rather resorted to the use of nonlinear formulations or highly extreme approximation of the nonlinear function. Even though nonlinear functions’ computation using metaheuristic algorithms is possible, but will not guarantee a precise solution and when computed in commercial nonlinear solvers, the computation stress and time of the model increases significantly. Moreover, the linearization of the model makes it extremely reduced to a piecewise linear function with many uncertain variables. To address this, the current paper has formulated an efficient model for analyzing the voltage dependency of loads in DG allocation which can be solved using commercial linear solvers. The proposed model is implemented on a 16-bus distribution network and the results indicate that the proposed model does not only have the advantage of active power loss reduction but also has the ability to enhance the voltage profile of the system significantly as compared to the traditional DG allocation models.
