The Interlocking Experiment on Millimeter Wave Coaxial Magnetron for Array Application

Magnetron is an oscillator with poor phase stability and could not be applied in phase coherent system. Based on the mutual-coupling injection startup technology, a millimeter wave coaxial magnetron for array application was developed and it was the first time to achieve frequency locking and phase coherent in millimeter-band coaxial magnetron. Using the CST particle studio, the coaxial magnetron model with an additional coupling port set in outer cavity was built. Simulation analysis was conducted by using a coupling bridge to connect two magnetron coupling ports. The relationship of the coupling bridge length and lock performance was explored. Then, a prototype of Ka-band coaxial magnetron was successfully fabricated. During the mutual-coupling injection locking experiment, the frequency locking and phase coherent output were achieved with the dual-port phase difference of 24.66°. This kind magnetron could be applied at the field of millimeter wave high-power microwave (HPM) synthesis arrays application.
