Resource-Saving Modeling of an Electronic Fuse in Vehicular Power Systems

Novel power system architectures are currently being researched in the automotive sector. The necessary power distribution units contain electronic fuses. These fuses enable fast, selective isolation of faults and can thus stabilize the power system and maintain the reliable operation of safety-critical loads. In this paper, a computationally efficient generic simulation model of an electronic fuse including thermal, electrical and control domain is presented. The functionality of the simulation model is verified using an engineering sample and test-bench based measurements of high-dynamic power fluctuations. A deviation of less than 5 % compared to the measurement can be achieved.
