Dual-MPC as Next Generation Energy Management Algorithm for Multi-Energy-Source Vehicles

Next Generation Energy Management Algorithms for multi-energy source and multi-motor electric vehicles are gaining a new degree of freedom by controlling the individual motor torques in addition to the control of the energy source distribution. With this extension, the control algorithm is gaining complexity because the energy distribution with comparable slow dynamics is coupled with the traction allocation of the motors that show very quick dynamics. In this contribution, a Dual-Model-Predictive-Control approach is shown to tackle this problem. The control concept has been evaluated within the IEEE VTS Motor Vehicles Challenge 2023.
