Hydrodynamic Frequency Analysis based Floating OWT Power Quality Mitigation

This experimental study focuses on the power quality issues associated with floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) due to complex hydrodynamics. With a detailed electromechanical coupled model of FOWTs, by hydrodynamic frequency analysis, it is found that the ocean wave frequencies as independent and primary harmonic components are significantly presenting in the output power spectrum. To address this, a targeted band-stop filter design is proposed at the DC-link, which can successfully suppresse fluctuations in the power output and significantly enhances the power quality of individual wind energy conversion systems (WECS) with FOWTs. This research contributes to the advancement of power signal processing strategies for FOWTs, offering potential solutions to mitigate power quality challenges.
